How Do I Purchase Shares of a Mutual Fund?
At Homestead Funds, it’s easy to add to your account. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you.
Online:
Log in to your Homestead Funds account and click “Transact Online” at the top of the menu on the left side. If you have multiple accounts, choose the account you’d like to purchase into and then click “Purchase.” You can purchase shares online by transferring money from your bank account to Homestead Funds. You need to have bank information on file with us to buy shares online. If you wish to add these privileges, click “Bank Information” in the menu on the left side.
By Phone:
Call us at 800.258.3030. You can transfer money from your bank account to buy more Homestead Funds shares. You need to have telephone privileges and have bank information on file with us to buy shares by phone. If you wish to add telephone purchase privileges, complete the Account Services Form.
By Mail:
Send a check payable to Homestead Funds. Please write your account number and the name of the fund(s) you are investing in on the check. If you prefer you can also use our Deposit Form to provide more specific instructions on how to deposit the check.
Mail to the address on the form.
We accept personal and business checks made payable directly to Homestead Funds. Sorry, we cannot accept third-party checks; credit card convenience checks; bank account starter checks; cash; or cash equivalents, including money orders, traveler’s checks or bearer bonds.
How Do I Redeem Shares?
At Homestead Funds, it’s easy to sell shares from your account. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you.
Online:
Log in to your Homestead Funds account and click “Transact Online” at the top of the menu on the left side. If you have multiple accounts, choose the account you’d like to redeem from and then click “Redemption.” You must have online redemption privileges and bank instructions on your account.
As a security precaution, upon adding bank instructions, you must wait 15 days after the instructions have been added to your account before you can process a redemption to the new bank instructions.
By Phone:
Call us at 800.258.3030. You can choose to receive a check mailed to your address of record or sent directly to your bank account via ACH transfer or fed funds wire if you have bank information on file with us. Homestead Funds does not charge a fee to send an ACH transfer. We charge a nominal fee to send a Fedwire. A Fedwire typically arrives in one business day, and an ACH transfer typically takes two to three business days.
You must have telephone redemption privileges to sell shares by phone. If you wish to add telephone redemption privileges, complete the Account Services Form.
By Mail:
Mail an Account Distribution Request Form or a Transaction Request Form to the address on the form.
How Do I Move Shares from One Fund to Another?
At Homestead Funds, it’s easy to make exchanges from one fund to another. To make an exchange, select the method that’s most convenient for you.
Online:
Log in to your Homestead Funds account and click “Transact Online” at the top of the menu on the left side. If you have multiple accounts, choose the account you’d like to exchange within and then click “Exchange.” If you are exchanging shares to a new account, both accounts must be registered the same way.
By Phone:
Call us at 800.258.3030. You must have telephone exchange privileges to exchange shares by phone. If you wish to add these privileges, complete the Account Services Form.
By Mail:
Mail a Transaction Request Form to the address on the form.
General Trading Policies
Purchases are not binding on Homestead Funds until your investment is received by the transfer agent in good order. To be considered in good order, your transaction must include all information required for processing. For exchanges and redemptions, a request must include, among other things, the exact name in which the shares are registered, the dollar amount of shares or a percentage of shares to be redeemed or exchanged, and — for written requests — a signature matching the account registration, together with any other materials or information required by a fund, the fund’s transfer agent or any other agents appointed for that purpose.
If your instructions to buy, sell or exchange shares are not complete, we will try to contact you. If we don’t receive further instructions within a reasonable time period, we will send a letter of instruction and return any checks.
If you instruct us to redeem shares recently purchased by personal or business check or ACH transfer, your redemption will be held until your purchase has cleared. This usually takes no more than 10 days from receipt of your purchase. Your transaction will be priced on the day the transfer agent receives your redemption request in good order.
